The Digital Energy Grid (DEG) is a four day innovation sprint uniting leading minds across the UK to reimagine the future of open, intelligent energy systems. The event builds on the Digital Energy Grid (DEG) — a global digital infrastructure designed to coordinate information, energy, and capital flows, enabling interoperable and verifiable transactions across the energy ecosystem. The hackathon invites students, researchers, alumni, and startups to design and prototype AI-driven, open-network energy solutions using the DEG — a next-generation interoperability layer for the energy transition.

This is more than an idea-generation event; it’s a live demonstration of “infrastructure-as-implementation” — where open standards, market innovation, and multi-stakeholder collaboration converge to create investable, interoperable solutions for a connected energy future.

Benefits and Prize pool

Deep-dive sessions:
  • Introduction to the Digital Energy Grid (DEG): 30 mins + 15 mins Q&A
  • DEG-in-a-box: Technical Deep Dive: 30 mins + 15 mins Q&A
  • Problem Statement Walkthrough: 30 mins + 15 mins Q&A
Team formation, Networking Session

Outcome:

Each team understands the challenge statement clearly, selects one problem and initiates ideation rooted in the DEG vision.

D2 Saturday, November 22 – Ideate + Decide + Shortlist

Key Theme: Diverge before you converge

  • Guided ideation workshops using the Sprint methodology
  • Mentor hours with industry experts and the FIDE team
  • End-of-day checkpoint with review panel feedback
  • Teams submit their solution/proposal for evaluation

Screening Process:

  • The screening committee reviews all submitted ideas
  • Evaluation based on clarity of problem-solution fit, team motivation, skill diversity, and relevance
  • Only the best ideas are shortlisted for the prototyping phase

Outcome:

Teams generate multiple high-impact solution ideas, evaluate them for feasibility and impact, and submit one final idea for consideration.
The top shortlisted teams advance to the next stage to begin building their prototypes.

D3&D4, November 23 – 24 Prototype & Test

Key Theme: Build fast, fail smart

  • Two-day rapid prototyping sprint using the DEG sandbox
  • Supported by volunteers from Beckn Community
  • Mentorship clinics and on-demand technical reviews
  • Final submission by 17:00 GMT November 24th via GitHub + Slack

Outcome:

Working prototype or demo-ready simulation that demonstrates the core interaction logic and impact.

D5 Tuesday, November 25 – Pitch Day

Key Theme: Refine, rehearse, and pitch the story

  • User testing and mentor feedback loops
  • Pitch deck and demo script refinement sessions with FIDE mentors
  • Pitching in front of jury members and Winner announcement

Why this matters - a hackathon unlike any other

The energy transition isn’t just about infrastructure, it’s also about intelligence. The world’s energy grids are evolving, from rigid, one-way supply chains to dynamic ecosystems where homes, EVs, batteries, and rooftops both consume and supply power. To keep this system balanced, we need intelligent, autonomous agents that can sense stress on the grid, negotiate with devices and markets, and act in real-time. Ener’gentic 2025 is your chance to shape the digital layer of the future energy ecosystem.

The Digital Energy Grid (DEG) vision and the Beckn Protocol provide these agents with a shared language. Tools like Google’s Agent Development Kit (ADK) and the World Engine give you everything you need to prototype them.

Two Tracks, One Goal: A Smarter Energy Grid

Engineering Track

Build autonomous agents for real-time energy transactions

For full-stack and ML engineers, data scientists, and systems hackers ready to architect working agents that speak beckn and transact in a live energy simulation. You’ll deliver a running agent that talks beckn, plugs into World Engine’s simulated grid and makes real-time decisions and transactions. Clear logs, modular architecture and a README that tells judges how to spin it up.

Design Track

Craft experiences that users can trust and adopt

For designers, researchers, and storytellers focused on making agentic energy experiences understandable, intuitive, and impactful—code optional, clarity essential. You will deliver a high-fidelity concept deck and interactive prototype (Figma, Principle, or any low-code tool) that maps the user journey, screens, incentives and trust cues that make an energy agent adoptable.
